“Just DO IT! You will never regret enjoying life by being able to hear, and you won’t realize how much you miss out on without them!”
About 20 years ago, I woke up unable to hear from my right ear after a spider bite and several days of IV antibiotics. It was scary, and after several tests I found that maybe a hearing aid could help. Being much younger then and wearing short hair, I worried about it showing. I didn’t find Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates for a few years, and my hearing worsened. Meeting the team there was a huge relief because they are compassionate, caring, and always ready to help find the best hearing solution. I think I’m on my second aid from Erica and her team, and it has been an awesome journey.
With hearing aids, I can hear my grandkids, go places with friends, and be part of life. When I have to be without them, it is miserable. Looking back from age 82 to when I was 55, I can’t imagine missing out on life without them. The clinic is so caring, accommodating, and fun to work with. If you are concerned about your hearing, just do it. You will never regret enjoying life by being able to hear, and you won’t realize how much you miss out on without them.

“My hearing aids have made a huge difference in my life.”
The moment I first realized something was up with my ears was during COVID. I had never realized just how much I relied on reading lips to understand people. Once it was brought to my attention, I realized how much I was missing in my day-to-day life. Before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I was worried that because of my age, I wouldn’t be able to get hearing aids or that I might be accused of faking it. Fortunately, I almost never have to worry about people even knowing that I wear them because of how discreet they are. My first impressions of Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates were very positive. I met Erika Shakespeare first for my hearing test. She was very nice, didn’t talk down to me, and treated me like the adult I am. During my consultation on hearing aids at A&HAA, I met a very nice lady who also wears hearing aids. Talking to someone with similar issues made me feel less alone and more comfortable. The rest of the team has also been great and very accommodating, especially since I had to move for college and have a strange work schedule. My hearing aids have made a huge difference in my life. I hadn’t realized how much I had been missing until I put them in and could hear everything. It took me a while to get used to them, and I am still working on it a bit, but overall, they have created such a positive impact on my life. If you’re concerned about your hearing and considering visiting, get your hearing tested. It’s not harmful, it doesn’t take long, and it’s beneficial to know if you have any hearing issues. Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates has been great and very accommodating to me.

“I’ve found myself whistling again, which has brought a surprising amount of joy back into my life.”
I first realized I had a hearing challenge when I found myself unable to sustain my relationships with others. Initially, I had concerns about how invasive the process might be and whether I’d be able to hear again. My first impression of Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates was quite low, but that changed quickly. Since getting hearing aids, I’ve found myself whistling again, which has brought a surprising amount of joy back into my life. If you’re concerned about your hearing and considering a visit, I would say that my experience and the care from the doctor have been amazing, restoring a sense of feeling and healing beyond what I had assumed for 10 years.

“Go get a hearing test! Don’t worry about what other people might think. Wear them proudly!”
I was born with a hearing loss and it has gotten worse over the years. I got my first hearing aid in 3rd grade and felt relieved that I could hear better, but also worried that I might be made fun of in school. Before contacting Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, I wondered if the hearing aids would work well since I’ve worn many different kinds through the years. When I first visited, I was impressed by how clean the place was and how thorough the staff was. They created a calm situation that could have been stressful. Hearing aids have saved my life. Without them, I would not be able to work or function as well as I do. The clinic is knowledgeable, supportive, and caring, and I appreciate that they have a van that comes up to Wallowa County every two weeks in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.
If you are concerned about your hearing, go get a hearing test. Don’t worry about what other people might think. Wear them proudly!
– Kate F.
“Without my hearing aids I would be quite isolated”
“My hearing loss was abrupt. It was in the mid-1980s when technology was in the developmental stages. It was scary…absolutely. The team at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates is very professional but yet caring and friendly. Without my hearing aids, I would be quite isolated. Just today I highly recommended A&HAA to someone who is experiencing a notable hearing loss.”
'- MaryLynne E.
“They are very interested in my hearing but also in me as a person. I had just lost my husband and they cared! It wasn’t just about the hearing test.”
I first thought people were just mumbling, but eventually I found myself quitting group activities because I kept asking friends to speak up. Then a friend suggested I get my hearing checked with Dr. Shakespeare at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates. She knew right away that I needed hearing help. I was pretty excited that my name was put in a drawing and I won my hearing aids! I had no fears beforehand because everyone I knew had shared nothing but good reviews, and my first impression was extremely positive.
Hearing aids have made a huge difference. I feel comfortable being in groups again and no longer have to struggle to understand what people are saying. The best part about working with the clinic is that they cared about me as a person, especially after I had just lost my husband. If someone is concerned about their hearing, I’d tell them that the hearing test is simple and free.
– Darlene S.
“Please make an appointment as soon as you can, you won't be disappointed.”
I thought it was everybody else, not me. I heard just fine until I didn't. When I took the test at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, I realized I wasn't hearing just fine and that scared me. My biggest concern was where the money was going to come from, but they helped me with that. They were very kind and supportive, and now I can hear. The TV is no longer loud for other people, and I can hear and understand what people are saying without having to ask them to repeat themselves. If I have an issue, I can call and usually get it fixed right away.
– Connie D.
“Please talk with them. They were so helpful... To me it has been the most important part of my return to hearing more.”
I first realized I had a hearing challenge when I went in for a routine check for both my husband's and my hearing aids. At first, we thought my right aid was broken, but it turned out my right ear was almost totally deaf. I had received my implant in Portland just before Covid hit and couldn't find anyone closer to work on my implant, so I was very thankful to find an audiologist in Idaho who could help me and would meet with me.
Hearing aids have helped me hear much of what I was missing without realizing it. I have to drive an hour and a half to get to the clinic office in L.G., but it is so nice to be greeted with smiles and friendly faces. They also have an outreach program that has helped me pick up battery supplies for my left ear aid. If you are concerned about your hearing, please talk with them. They were so helpful when my Idaho contact moved, and they went to bat for me to help me be able to work with the clinic much closer to home. Be sure you check up on support and training after your implant surgery. To me, it has been the most important part of my return to hearing more.
– Juanita W.
“I think they are tops in their field, and very professional and courteous to work with.”
I have dealt with hearing challenges for a long time, knowing after extensive ear surgery years ago that only one ear could be helped with a hearing aid. I had previously been a patient of both owners of Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates through my ear doctor, so this gave me a good impression. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the office help and the smooth flow throughout my visits. The hearing aids have helped me over the years, though I may soon need a newer solution due to my age. The clinic always explains my situation and all available options. They are tops in their field and very professional and courteous to work with.
– Robert G. Crader sr.
“I could not recommend them”
After an accident, I wanted to hear better and turned to Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates. I had no fears before contacting them and my first impression was fine, but the hearing aids have never worked right for me so I do not wear them. I could not recommend the clinic, and I do not have a favorite thing about working with them.
– Mark Van Sickle
“Let them help you. They know how to help.”
I first realized I had a hearing challenge when I could not hear my wife. My only concern before contacting Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates was the cost. My first impression was that everyone was very friendly, encouraging, and educational. With hearing aids, I can now hear clearly at home, church, and board meetings. They follow up with me regularly, which I appreciate. I would tell anyone concerned about their hearing to let them help you. They know how to help.
– Bruce K.
“Please go visit them and get tested as soon as possible!”
I remember how bad I felt when I didn’t hear my daughter calling my name as she was running to me in a store. I wish I would’ve got hearing aids sooner. Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates made everything simple, and I knew I was in good hands because they are awesome people. Hearing aids have improved my life a whole lot, and now I’m not missing out on the conversations around me.
– Teresa
“Don't hesitate”
I first realized I had a hearing challenge while at work in healthcare, missing some things colleagues and patients were saying. I had no concerns before contacting Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates because Erica was so attentive and understanding. My hearing aids have provided freedom and shown me the importance of communicating. The clinic is helpful, concerned, friendly, courteous, and very service oriented. If you are concerned about your hearing, don’t hesitate.

“You have nothing to worry about & AHAA will assist every step of the way.”
About 7–8 years ago, I realized I had a hearing challenge because I wasn’t able to clearly hear my family or coworkers. I just wanted to get some of my hearing back and was worried until I got help. My first impression of Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates was very positive, as Erika was very attentive and the entire staff helped a great amount. Hearing aids have helped me get my hearing back and my frustration has decreased. They are available for any questions, concerns, or assistance I need.

“Go for it!”
My memory of sudden hearing loss is vivid, both times, 20 years apart. My biggest concern before contacting Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates was competence, but my first impressions were very good—the office was clean and the staff courteous. Professionalism stands out as my favorite thing about working with the clinic. Being able to communicate has been a tremendous boon to the quality of life in my day to day experience of it. If you are concerned about your hearing, go for it!
– Connie
“By all means make an appointment”
I first realized I may have a hearing challenge years ago. I had no fears or concerns before contacting Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates. My first impression was that they were very professional, and I especially appreciated their attention to detail. I didn’t realize how much I was missing until I started using hearing aids. By all means, make an appointment if you are concerned about your hearing.
– Kevin H.
“You will not regret getting hearing aids. I can’t go without them.”
I never dreamed I would need hearing aids and was shocked when Erica told me I need them. Hearing aids were for others! My first impression of Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates was that they are very friendly and helpful. The clinic keeps you up to date, schedules frequent check ups during the first year, and keeps testing to make sure your hearing aids are right for you.
Now, I can hear. I am turning down the volume on the TV and can hear others even when they are not facing me. You will not regret getting hearing aids. I can’t go without them.
– Jacquie
“They should get their hearing checked.”
I didn't think I had a hearing impairment, but since I hadn't had my hearing checked in years, I wanted it checked. I had no fears before contacting Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates and my first impression was just fine. It was a routine hearing test and I’m not emotionally involved in the process. I don’t have hearing aids. If someone is concerned about their hearing, they should get their hearing checked.
– Margare D.
“It’s everything to be able to hear”
I first realized I might have a hearing challenge when I was standing close to my husband and couldn’t hear what he was saying. I had no concerns before contacting Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates because my Nurse Practitioner recommended them. My first impression was that they were kind, caring, and knowledgeable. Hearing aids have changed everything for me, just being able to hear. The clinic really tries to make your hearing the best it can be. I would tell anyone considering them that Erica is very caring and knowledgeable.

“Hearing loss can be disabling. It is not just difficult for you but can be very trying for others who are wanting to communicate with you. ”
I realized I had a hearing problem when I could no longer hear heart sounds through my stethoscope as well as I used to. As a retired physician, I was concerned about the stigma of “looking old” with hearing aids and honestly did not believe I really needed them, though everyone else knew I did. My first visit to Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates was after a high recommendation from my previous audiologist. When they put hearing aids on me that visit, I could not believe how much hearing loss I actually had. It was a new world to hear light and background noise again. I was very impressed with the options they provided and how quickly everything moved.
Now, I can hear again. Living in the country, I appreciate the quiet but not deafness. I enjoy the sounds of birds and the stream in our yard, and it has improved my relationship with my wife because I no longer have to ask her to repeat herself. I also enjoy socializing more, as I can finally participate in conversations without misunderstanding or avoiding gatherings. I would highly recommend the clinic to anyone concerned about their hearing. They are true professionals who are knowledgeable, sincerely interested in helping you hear at your best, and work hard to provide great customer service and quality hearing aids.
– John H.
“I regard hearing aids as an important element in maintaining a healthy, successful marriage.”
More than 10 years ago, I realized I had a hearing challenge because I needed the TV at a level beyond what my wife could stand. I certainly recognized I required help. I was impressed with the staff and technology regarding hearing aids at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates. The service since then has been exceptional.
Hearing aids are an important element in maintaining a healthy, successful marriage for me.
– John P.
“If you want straight up helpful service that addresses different types of hearing issues come here first. They set the bar for service and results very high.”
I first realized I may have a hearing challenge when I couldn't understand some words during normal conversation with people I could usually understand. I had used other hearing aid providers before, so I knew what to expect and had already decided that understanding what was being said was more important than concerns over the appearance of hearing aids. Compared to others, Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates were very easy to deal with, from the interview to testing to offering options and guiding me toward the aids that best served my needs.
The results have been very good, and all the impacts have been positive. Some distractions came while learning to work with the hearing aids, but overall it’s been great. My favorite thing about working with them is the overall care and concern over time; when you have questions or issues, they are always available and approachable, even years later. If you want straight up helpful service that addresses different types of hearing issues, come here first. They set the bar for service and results very high.
– Greg B.
“Visit Them!!!!”
Years ago, my wife first suspected that I might have a hearing challenge. I did not have any fears or concerns before contacting Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, and my first impression was very favorable. The personal care stood out to me, and hearing aids have impacted me in all social situations.
If you are concerned about your hearing and considering the clinic, visit them!

“Wearing hearing aids has significantly increased the value of my well-being”
I first realized something was up with my ears when I couldn’t articulate conversation properly. Despite not having any preconceived fears or concerns before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I don’t recall my first impressions of the clinic. Wearing hearing aids has significantly increased the value of my well-being, as I no longer feel isolated or ignored. To anyone concerned about their hearing and considering a visit, I would advise seeking out older people and asking if they wish they had not waited too long—after all, even introverts enjoy companionship.
'- Tom H.
“You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
The first time I realized that I had a hearing problem was when I was at work, sitting around a table with my colleagues. Most of the girls were younger than me, and I could not follow their conversation. It was both embarrassing and disheartening that I couldn’t keep up and didn’t want to keep asking, “What did you say?”. I would say my biggest concern was to simply acknowledge to myself that I had a problem—a problem that many associate with getting old. I didn’t feel old and thought only old people wear hearing aids. However, I wanted to be as healthy as possible, so I made that first appointment. When I first visited Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I was made to feel comfortable by the friendly smiles and unhurried pace. I was there for an evaluation, not yet a commitment. During that visit, I learned the extent of my hearing loss. It saddened me but also brought relief knowing I could get expert help. It didn’t take long to get used to my hearing aids because Dr. Erica slowly adjusted them for my comfort. I can hear conversations now without the tiring strain of trying to hear and participate, and I no longer have to be embarrassed by repeatedly asking, “What did you say?” I am truly grateful. For anyone concerned about their hearing, I would say, please just go and get your hearing tested by Dr. Erica. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Hearing is such a precious part of our well-being. The hearing aids are easy to wear, and the staff at Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates genuinely help you on your journey to better hearing in professional and amazing ways.
'- Phyllis K.
“Wearing hearing aids has improved my ability to hear”
I don’t personally remember the moment I realized I might have a hearing challenge, but my wife sure does. My main concern before visiting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates was whether a set of hearing aids could really improve my public and home life. My first impression of the clinic was one of future hope. Wearing hearing aids has improved my ability to hear in public settings and allows my wife and I to enjoy watching TV together again. For anyone concerned about their hearing and considering a visit, I would say that I have had good result.

“I was amazed at how easily I could hear again and how much better everything sounded.”
As a physician, I first realized I might have a hearing challenge when I had difficulty hearing patient heart sounds through my stethoscope. It became clear that my hearing deficit wasn’t just affecting me—it could also affect my patient’s health. Before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I had concerns about looking like an old man because of highly visible hearing aids. My first impression of the clinic was very positive. I distinctly remember the moment I first heard sound through a hearing aid in their office. I was amazed at how easily I could hear again and how much better everything sounded. That experience convinced me that I wanted assisted hearing with hearing aids.
Since then, I can now hear the words others are speaking and participate in conversations without guessing what’s being said. I’ve also regained the ability to hear my quiet environment—the birds chirping, insects flying by, and the rustling of leaves.
To anyone concerned about their hearing and considering a visit, I would highly endorse Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates. They are highly qualified experts in their field and offer top-of-the-line products backed by excellent service and follow-up. There’s a learning process to using hearing aids, and their educational support makes it much easier.
'- John H.
“You won’t find a better group of people to help you manage your hearing loss.”
In the early 1990s, I realized I was misunderstanding speech and mishearing many sounds. I remember feeling that I could no longer actively participate in conversations with more than one person, which made me feel depressed. I was exceptionally concerned that I would lose my ability to hear and play music. Having done extensive research, I knew that current technology was likely to help me if I found audiologists who were up-to-date with the most current technology. I found this with Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates. My first impressions of the clinic were very reassuring; everyone seemed sympathetic, empathetic, and knowledgeable. After some adjustments to the devices and my expectations, I am greatly benefited by my hearing aids. Knowing what to expect is probably the most challenging feature of hearing aids. Once I figured out what they can and cannot do for me, I was free to fully experience the benefits, and this had a huge impact on my life!
To anyone concerned about their hearing and considering visiting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I would say: Don’t put it off! Go now! You won’t find a better group of people to help you manage your hearing loss.
'- Norman P.
“Now that I wear hearing aids, I can hear words much clearer.”
I can’t pinpoint the exact moment I realized something was up with my ears, but I started to notice I was mishearing some words on TV and in conversations. I didn’t have any preconceived fears or concerns before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, but my first impression of them when I did was how knowledgeable they are! Now that I wear hearing aids, I can hear words much clearer.
If anyone is concerned about their hearing and considering a visit, I would recommend Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates—they take very good care of you. Overall I would give them a 10/10.
'- Risa H.
“Since getting my hearing aids, I can hear the birds, I don’t have to ask people to repeat themselves”
I’ve known for some time that I had a hearing problem, so when I decided to contact Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I had no worries. My first impression of the clinic was very positive—everyone was friendly, competent, and professional. Since getting my hearing aids, I can hear the birds, I don’t have to ask people to repeat themselves and my wife doesn’t yell at me as much! Even music is more enjoyable now.
If you’re concerned about your hearing and considering a visit, my advice would be: don’t wait, just do it. The learning curve is fairly steep, but if I can do it, anyone can.

“Go and get checked”
I first realized something was up with my hearing in the late 1980s while at work as a nurse. I had a difficult time hearing what my patients were saying, especially when they were soft-spoken or talking to my back. I had no preconceived fears or concerns before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates; I simply wanted to hear better. Since getting hearing aids, they have impacted my life very well. I learned strategies like where to stand to hear better. To anyone who is concerned about their hearing and considering visiting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I would say, Go and get checked and wear the hearing aids all the time. Whether you’re with people or not, get used to them.
'- Joan S.
“They are very knowledgeable and counsel you on options, what to expect, and how to address your concerns.”
I first realized something was up with my ears when I felt like my right ear was plugged all the time. Initially, I thought it might be allergies, so I went to an ENT who treated me for allergies, but my hearing didn’t improve. At first, the hearing loss was just enough to be annoying, but as it worsened, I grew more concerned. When the original ENT moved away, I found another ENT who had me get an MRI, ultimately diagnosing me with an acoustic neuroma, which was the actual cause of my hearing loss. My biggest concern before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates was knowing I had a tumor and not understanding what could be done to help my hearing. My first impression of A&HAA was that they were very professional and caring. They worked with my ENT and me to address my hearing loss and the fear of the tumor, suggesting CROS hearing aids as a solution. It was a little difficult at first to get used to having hearing aids in my ears, but the more I wore them, the more I realized I was hearing better. They taught me how to adjust the aids using an app on my phone, which has made it easier to communicate and feel more a part of conversations. Sometimes, when I am at home, I don’t wear the aids, giving my ears a rest, but this also helps me appreciate how much they assist me in hearing better. To anyone concerned about their hearing and considering a visit to Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I would say to give them a try. They are very knowledgeable and counsel you on options, what to expect, and how to address your concerns. They show you how to use and take care of the aids and are always available for questions and adjustments. It ultimately comes down to whether you want to make your life better by hearing better or be content to gradually lose contact with others due to hearing loss. A&HAA have always been supportive and helpful as I deal with this change in my life.

“Don’t hesitate, take the steps to being able to hear again.”
I first realized something was up with my ears when I suddenly lost my hearing in my right ear, and I was concerned it wouldn’t come back. Before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I had no fears about coming in to have my hearing assessed. My first impressions of the clinic were great—the staff and Erika were professional, nice, and knowledgeable. Now that I wear hearing aids, I’m able to hear once again in my right ear, and the tinnitus associated with my hearing loss is beginning to fade. To anyone concerned about their hearing and considering a visit, I would say, Don’t hesitate, take the steps to being able to hear again.

“I’m no longer trying to ‘fill in the blanks.’”
The moment I first realized something was up with my hearing was when I had trouble hearing my wife and grandchildren. I didn’t have any preconceived fears or concerns before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates. My first impression was that I was impressed with the quality of the testing room. Since getting hearing aids, my hearing has greatly improved, and I’m no longer trying to “fill in the blanks.” If you’re concerned about your hearing and considering a visit, don’t wait.

“I was buying my hearing aids at Costco…Erica was a rock for me to stand on in deep water, guiding and supporting me through it all.”
I first realized I had a hearing challenge when I suddenly couldn’t hear out of my left ear. Initially, I thought it was just plugged with ear wax, but after a physician checked, my ear was completely clean of wax. I was then referred to Dr. Petrusek, an ENT physician, and eventually ended up needing hearing aids after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease with a genetic component, which caused my hearing to continue declining over the years. Before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I was mainly concerned that I was truly going stone deaf, as my hearing had declined so much. I was introduced to Erica at Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates via Dr. Funk, MD, ENT, who assured me that if anyone could help me hear better with hearing aids, it would be her. At that time, I was buying my hearing aids at Costco but could hardly hear clearly in any type of conversation. Erica’s empathy and emotional support were invaluable during this difficult period. The inability to hear what was happening around me or in conversations made me feel almost frantic and totally stressed, as if I could no longer function in society. It was awful, but she helped immensely in the last stages of my hearing. My first impression of Erica was that she was incredibly knowledgeable. She understood my situation and saw where I was headed with my total loss of hearing. Erica was a rock for me to stand on in deep water, guiding and supporting me through it all. I felt grateful that she was in La Grande.
Hearing aids have had a huge impact on my life. They are the only way I can hear and be part of conversations.
To anyone concerned about their hearing and considering a visit to Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I would say, “Go! Go see Erica Shakespeare at A&HAA.”
'- Christine H.
“I would encourage you to go and find out for yourself. You must!”
I first realized something was wrong with my ears when I was alone in the Hearing Test room and pitifully frightened by the realization of my hearing loss. I was eager to find out more about what could be done to help me. My first impression of the clinic was very positive; the A&HAA expert clearly enjoyed providing help to my husband and me, which made a significant impression on me. Since getting hearing aids, my life has been positively impacted by being able to hear and converse with others again. I can’t imagine the deterioration of one’s life due to hearing loss. To anyone concerned about their hearing and considering visiting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I would encourage you to go and find out for yourself. You must! You will be encouraged as I was.
'- Debra G.
“They were the nicest and most caring people I had dealt with in a long time.”
I hoped it was other people not speaking clearly rather than me, but that was my first realization. It scared me to think I was losing my hearing along with my eyesight, and I worried about affording hearing aids or just dealing with the loss. I was concerned I would end up with those big, ugly brown hearing aids that some elderly people wear—they whistle and make all kinds of noise, and I didn’t want that. When I first visited, I found that they were the nicest and most caring people I had dealt with in a long time. The hearing aids have made my life so much easier because I can hear more clearly, and I think I listen more intently now. If you’re concerned about your hearing, I would say, “Please go see them or get a referral—you will never regret being able to hear better.”
'- Connie D.
“Give them a shot—you’ll be glad you did”
Years ago, I had no clue what I was missing until I first got hearing aids. The experience was overwhelming—it literally made me sick to my stomach because I wasn’t used to hearing all the different sounds I didn’t even know were there. It was both a scary and amazing realization. My main concern before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates was whether they could help me find a way to get what I needed, especially since I had been to many audiologists before. Thankfully, they went out of their way to assist me. My first impressions of the clinic were very positive; they were different in a good way, always trying to make me comfortable and continually checking on me to address my concerns. These new hearing aids are undoubtedly the best I’ve ever had. I’m now hearing things I’ve never heard in my life, and they’re so much simpler to use—no more packing batteries, just plugging them into the charger at night and putting them back on in the morning. It’s pretty simple. If someone is concerned about their hearing and considering visiting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates, I would say at least give them a shot—you’ll be glad you did. I know because I did. Having worn hearing aids my whole life, I can confidently say that they make the experience simple and pleasant. Everyone there will go out of their way to get you what you need.
'- Anthony G.
“They are professional and responsive to my individual needs.”
When I learned that I only hear about 40% of words spoken in a conversation, it made me want to be able to fully engage with others and understand them completely. I was concerned about the cost of treatment, but A&HAA soon made me realized that it wasn’t a problem. My first impression of the clinic was very positive; they are professional and responsive to my individual needs. Being a teacher, wearing hearing aids has significantly impacted my life—now I can hear what I need to better, with less confusion. If you are concerned about your hearing and considering a visit, I would say, “Don’t hesitate.” Not hearing well impacts our lives and relationships more than we probably realize, and it can be fixed or improved.
'- Jess R.
“I would recommend them 100 percent”
I developed vestibular issues, including dizziness and what I thought was tinnitus. I lost all hearing very quickly and as a result, I received cochlear implants. It has been a struggle and completely deteriorated my confidence, sense of self, and all social functions. A friend told me of a place that could help.
I did not have any preconceived fears or concerns before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates and my first impressions were that everyone was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help in any way.
Using hearing aids has been a journey for me. To anyone concerned about their hearing and considering a visit, I would recommend them 100 percent, and I would rate them a 10/10 overall.

“They were helpful, good listeners, and very competent.”
I’ve known something was up with my hearing since I was a kid, and my parents took me to see an ENT. Since I was already a hearing aid wearer, I had no preconceived fears or concerns before contacting Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates. They were helpful, good listeners, and very competent. Hearing aids are now an absolute must in my life. If you’re concerned about your hearing and considering a visit, I would say, “GO now! You won’t regret it, and the sooner you start trying hearing aids, the better. Adapting will only get more difficult with age.”

“Don’t wait. Why wouldn’t you want your life to be better now?”
I first realized I had a hearing challenge when I was unable to hear my grandkids and started feeling dizzy and unbalanced. Initially, I didn’t know who to make an appointment with, however, my first impression of Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates was reassuring; Erika was knowledgeable and informative. Since I started wearing hearing aids, not only has my hearing improved, but my dizziness and the fullness feeling in my ears have also been alleviated. To anyone concerned about their hearing and considering a visit, I would say, “Don’t wait. Why wouldn’t you want your life to be better now?”

“I would sincerely recommend Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates for their professionalism and continued support.”
“I first thought that I might have a hearing issue when I couldn’t hear the little birds in my yard very well. My husband seemed to be mumbling a lot, and then I came to discover that I could not hear very well in a crowd. I no longer liked to go out to eat or socialize because I seemed to need to only visit with one person and not a group. I could not sort out a single voice. I knew I was becoming lonely.
“I was already familiar with Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, as I was actually visiting the ear, nose, and throat office in La Grande for some answers for being dizzy – thinking it might be something in my inner ear. It was discovered that I have a rather severe hearing loss and I was referred to Dr. Erica Shakespeare. I was not sure I wanted to wear a hearing aid, but that was only a vanity issue.
“I was very impressed with the professionalism and the explanations of being fitted with a hearing aid. I would say that it has made me happier – to be with friends again, to enjoy sounds of nature, to enjoy my music more, and to actually ‘hear’ what my husband is saying to me.
“I would sincerely recommend Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates for their professionalism and continued support.”

“I can definitely hear conversations through the phone better without having to amplify the sound.”
“Before my appointment at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, I was concerned about what had caused my hearing loss and where do I go from here? What is the connection of my hearing loss to other medical issues and will I continue to have more loss of hearing?
“Upon my visit, I found everyone to be kind and with honest answers. They helped me to understand issues when I was concerned and confused at times and when trying to find answers to questions I had along the way. “I’m still relatively new to hearing aids and still adjusting, but I do like some of the features they offer in connection to smartphones. I can definitely hear conversations through the phone better without having to amplify the sound. I would tell anyone to check them out. Ericka and her team are willing to help where you need it most.”

“Do not hesitate to have your hearing tested by Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates.”
“I have always been hearing impaired. I am deaf in one ear due to a fused stapes that did not respond to surgery in my teens. Over the years, my ‘good’ ear gradually lost some hearing due to loud music, gun shots (possibly), and heredity. Forty years ago, I got my first hearing aid with the encouragement of my mother whose hearing loss was dramatically helped with an aid. It opened up a new world to me! I heard bird-song and the rustling of leaves for the first time, and most importantly, communication with my toddler daughter and husband was vastly improved.
“We are fortunate that the audio technology responsible for increasing advancement in telecommunications has made the gains in hearing technology nearly miraculous, in my opinion.
“The hearing in my ‘good’ ear is severely impaired now, but with the guidance of Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates fitting me with a hearing device programmable indefinitely to my own specific changing needs, my hearing is not perfect but dramatically improved, and I function well in most all social situations where there aren’t too many people. “I have been with Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates for at least 25 years. While traveling in NZ in 1994, I dropped my hearing aid and accidently stepped on it. My audiologist at the time, Jim Thompson, rushed a loaner to me within two days! Erika Shakespeare has also come to my rescue as well above and beyond the call of duty because she understands how debilitating it is not to be able to communicate. “Because of my history, I wanted to make sure my hearing could not be restored surgically before investing in a hearing aid, so I saw an ear, nose, and throat physician in La Grande. Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates was affiliated with his office and he recommended them. I’ve found that they are always compassionate and professional, they answered all my questions about hearing aids, and covered all my options. “I cannot imagine being without my ‘little buddy.’ Although my hearing is far from perfect, I am able to function well socially in most situations. It means the difference between being a part of your family’s conversation and missing out on so much that is being said. Not being able to hear is isolating and can have physical and psychological consequences. hearing aid maximizes the relationships in my life and enhances them in every way. “Do not hesitate to have your hearing tested by Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates. They can assess your situation precisely and make recommendations that might include being checked out by a doctor. I would be happy to talk with anyone who has concerns or questions. There are many misconceptions about hearing aids that can easily be dispelled.”

“I don’t have to constantly talk too loudly or repeat myself. If you are thinking of making an appointment, then go.”
“When I was a substitute at an elementary school, I had to keep asking students to speak louder and more slowly while leaning closer to them. I felt inadequate and embarrassed. Before my appointment at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, I was worried that I would not be able to afford any hearing aids.
“I found that everyone there was very sincere, kind, and informative. The cleanliness of the office and efficiency of the staff was amazing. I had a great deal of help in finding a way to be able to afford the hearing aid. “The greatest impact has been with how Erica has helped my husband with his hearing loss. I don’t have to constantly talk too loudly or repeat myself. If you are thinking of making an appointment, then go. We live in Baker City and my husband has been seen by 3 – 4 other audiologists from here, La Grande, and over to Pendleton and back. Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates has been bar far the most helpful and skillful in assisting him with his extensive hearing loss. Same for me.”

“I would definitely encourage anyone to trust their hearing to the professionals at Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates.”
“My wife told me I needed to do something about my poor hearing. I was in denial until I had a hearing test and someone told me that I did have a significant hearing loss and that the loss could result in dementia in the long term; that’s when I realized that I really had to do something.
“I have a very active lifestyle and did not want to have hearing aids get in my way; then there was the concern about cost. At my first appointment, I found the team to be very knowledgeable, helpful, kind, and understanding people. “As for my new hearing aids, there is no doubt that in some ways they are a pain. However, I can now hear what is going on around me much better and I don’t miss all those funny remarks my grandchildren make! The major thing is that I feel they have helped me to maintain my mental acuity. Having seen how other organizations have worked in the lives of my family members, I would definitely encourage anyone to trust their hearing to the professionals at Audiology & Hearing Aid Associates because they have done an excellent job for my family and me.”

“I can now conduct conversations in a normal manner without saying “huh” or “what” all the time. I can even hear some types of birds singing and bees buzzing that I could not hear before.”
“I realized that I might have a hearing loss when I began to not hear words when people were talking to me. Female voices were the first problem and then it got to the point that more and more male and female voices were harder to understand.
“I didn’t have any concerns before coming to Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates. I have been wearing hearing aids for 30 years. Hearing aids have gradually improved to the really good ones I now have. I have probably had 6-7 different hearing aid brands and types. The tests for hearing are painless, easy, and the people giving them are always pleasant.
“My first impression was that their team was totally competent, professional, and very helpful. I had been getting service through the VA, but that became impossible due to the COVID-19 virus reducing their services. Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates is much more convenient to deal with and the service has been super.
“The hearing aids I now have are the best I have ever owned, and they allow me to hear everything at a much improved level. I would say that on a scale of 1 to 10, my first hearing aids were about a 3. The type the VA gave me might have been rated a 7 at best and they were top quality. My new hearing aids rate a 9. I will never have perfect hearing, but the VA rated me with a 70% hearing loss, so I am really pleased with a 9.
“I can now conduct conversations in a normal manner without saying “huh” or “what” all the time. I can even hear some types of birds singing and bees buzzing that I could not hear before. You should have a test to determine if you have a hearing loss. If you do need hearing aids, I would totally recommend Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates. I have dealt with a lot of hearing aid professionals and these folks are top quality.”

“The team is wonderful to work with and they always provide needed equipment.”
“I had my hearing tested at my place of employment & realized I had a hearing loss primarily in one ear. Before my appointment at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, I had no idea what to expect, as I didn’t know how serious the loss was and what could be done to correct it.
“The office was well organized with all the equipment to test for hearing loss; plus Erika showed me what the hearings aids looked like, how they worked, and explained why it was so important to regain my hearing as soon as possible. “I can now hear everything my husband says to me. I can hear conservations and questions that people have at the nursery where I work. It has also made my life safer because I can hear approaching traffic and equipment in my daily life and at work.
“The team is wonderful to work with and they always provide needed equipment (brushes, containers, solutions, etc.) and cleaning of hearing aids very promptly.”

“Go check it out. You will be happy you did.”
“Prior to my first appointment at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, I was a bit worried. I wondered do I have to wear aids? How is this going to work? How will this impact my life?
“I found their team to be professional and knowledgeable. My new hearing aids have definitely helped me get along, but they are not new ears by any means. They help me in crowded, noisy situations to understand what is going on.
“Go check it out. You will be happy you did.”
'- Bob M.
“With my hearing aids, it’s much easier and more fun to talk with people.”
“My biggest concern about my hearing was the necessity to ask others to repeat what they were saying. It happened so often that I was becoming very embarrassed. The Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates team is very friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. With my hearing aids, it’s much easier and more fun to talk with people. I would definitely recommend them – go for it!”

“It has been a pleasure working with Erika.”
“Ten to 15 years ago (2005 to 2009), I realized I was ‘missing’ more subtle sounds, and I was ‘reminded’ by others that I was asking ‘What?’ more often. Erika is the second audiologist (plus a technician) that I have visited. I cannot say I have had concerns with A&HAA. It has been a pleasure working with Erika, as she has ‘tuned’ my hearing aids to function better than I’ve experienced in the past.
Erika and A&HAA have provided very professional treatment while at the same time providing a very personable atmosphere. She has not hesitated to answer questions in a professional and forthright manner. I can now hear quite well in a manner that is near normal. Erika provides the best service that I have experienced – including excellent hearing aids.”
'- John B.
“It is a life changer.”
“I first realized that I had a hearing loss 8-10 years ago. I visited Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates because I was mainly curious about what I was missing in conversations. I found everyone there to be kind and understanding. With my hearing aids, I hear better. I have the feeling that I’m not lost in this world. If you are considering an appointment, then don’t wait. It is a life changer.”
'- Brian B.
“If you are considering an appointment with them, know that you are making the right choice.”
“I realized I might have a hearing problem when I had trouble understanding what was said on TV or in a group. It could be embarrassing. At my first appointment at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, I knew right away that they were there to help and that they had the correct training to do so. Now, with my hearing aids, I just feel more confident. If you are considering an appointment with them, know that you are making the right choice.”
'- Risa H.
“It is easier to hear on the phone.”
“I figured that I had a hearing loss when listening to phone calls. Prior to my appointment, my only concerns were about the cost and where do I park? It is too early to define how my hearing aids have helped me, but it is easier to hear the phone for sure. Taking off masks is a challenge. Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates provide a good service.

“Now, I hear normal conversations a lot clearer. I can hear a lot of things outside that I hadn’t noticed before.”
“About 15 years or so ago, I began noticing that I was having trouble understanding what people were saying, especially in situations like meetings or restaurants. I was asking people to repeat themselves. My tinnitus was also getting to a point that it was irritating and distracting, and sometimes making it hard to sleep. Prior to my first appointment, my concerns included cost, appearance, and losing something so small. My first impression of Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates was that the facilities were clean, comfortable, and professional, and that the staff was friendly and informative. Now, I hear normal conversations a lot clearer. I can hear a lot of things outside that I hadn’t noticed before – and I spend a lot of time outdoors. Also the tinnitus seems to be less noticeable while I am wearing my hearing aids. The staff and audiologist are very knowledgeable and were able to come up with a plan that is working well for me.”

“My hearing aids let me be able to join in conversations and be part of the group.”
“I suspected that I might have a hearing loss because I felt left out and could not join in conversations with my family. My first appointment at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates was very good. My hearing aids let me be able to join in conversations and be part of the group. I would encourage everyone to get their hearing loss treated.”

"I can tell you I would miss SO MUCH from my six grandchildren if I didn’t have these aids"
COVID made me realize just how dependent I had become on lip reading. Sitting in a large meeting room with dozens of people all wearing masks, I was catching less than half of what was being said. Some of these meetings, as Communications Director, I was expected to lead, yet there I was, struggling to keep up. It impacted my time management mostly, as I had to follow up one-on-one to be clear on what was said. And, at the time, there was my personal embarrassment at having to admit I was hearing challenged. It wasn’t one specific moment that caused frustration, just the daily wear and tear of feeling out of step sometimes—I missed a lot when masks were on. I hate masks.
Taking action made a huge difference. The amazing app for my phone allowed me to customize my needs for different situations. Even with masks, I still missed some from the low talkers, but I would say I went from about 40% comprehension in those large meetings to about 85% comprehension. It made a HUGE difference. In terms of my career, probably not much would have changed. But addressing my hearing loss definitely had a positive impact. As the head of the PR Department, I was able to engage so much more naturally. Instead of just nodding and smiling, especially with those low talkers and many of the elderly specifically who visited with me, I actually engaged more fully. They felt more heard and valued, and I felt like I was doing my job better.
P.S. – I know this is career-related, but now that I’m retired, I can tell you I would miss SO MUCH from my six grandchildren if I didn’t have these aids. I’m eternally grateful for you and your skill and your services.
