Hearing aids, like any other sort of technology, can endure a certain amount of wear and tear over time before they break. There are a few different ways that hearing aids can be damaged – but many breaks can be mended with ease and have you out the door with your repaired hearing aids on the same day.

If your hearing aids aren’t working like they used to, don’t worry – we get people coming to visit us frequently about broken hearing aids, whether it be from moisture, earwax buildup, defective parts, or something else that’s affected how the hearing aid performs. Quite often, it’s an easy fix.

The team at Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates is more than happy to help you fix up your hearing aids, and we’ve seen a myriad of different reasons for repairs. Here we’ve compiled a few of the most common fixes we can mend for you.

Moisture Damage

Moisture damage is one of the most common causes of hearing aid defects. Whether it be from getting it wet in a sudden downpour, forgetting to take it out when you shower, or even dropping it in a puddle, getting your hearing aid wet doesn’t mean it’s broken for good.

Drying out your hearing aid is easier said than done; while you can use the good old-fashioned technique of putting your devices in rice, we always advise taking the battery out and wiping down any excess moisture before leaving it for 24 hours in rice or desiccant. If you’re still not getting any results, then it's time to have one of our experts look and make sure that water didn’t negatively affect any of the delicate tech inside the hard case as well as looking into replacing any parts that got too waterlogged.

Defective Parts

Sometimes, parts of hearing aids will naturally deteriorate after years of use, especially with older models of hearing aids. We can look inside and see which part of your hearing aid isn’t working as it should and fix or replace the part as needed.

Performance Is Too Quiet

If your hearing aid is slightly muted, or too quiet altogether, there’s a few reasons that could be happening. One of the most common ones we see a lot is a buildup of earwax, which can clog filters and lead to a muffled performance. We’re happy to clear any buildup and replace filters as needed!

Damage after a Fall

Accidents happen – you took out your hearing aid to sleep or shower and dropped it on the floor. Perhaps the outer casing is cracked, or something inside got jostled out of place. We’re happy to look under the hood and see what’s going on, as sometimes, it is just the outer casing that’s been damaged.

We’re Happy to Help You

Our team is here to assist with any sorts of questions or concerns you have, whether it be about your own hearing aids or a loved one’s.

Repairs for your hearing aids can cost between $68-$496 depending on the problem you’re facing – and we can provide loaner devices if the repairs will take longer than one day.
