A recent Android 12 update should have been a good thing for smartphone users, but instead it has made life difficult for people whose ReSound hearing aids were set up to stream from their smartphone.

Users have reported their hearing devices disconnecting and not being able to reconnect them. And this is not the only problem – the Smartphone Bluetooth app still shows that the hearing aids are connected.

What’s the problem?

The problem does not lie with ReSound hearing aids or the ReSound app but with the way smartphones and hearing aids connect, and the update somehow managed to bungle that connection.

Which hearing aids might disconnect with the Android 12 update?

Any hearing aid that supports Android Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA), including ReSound ONE and ReSound LiNX Quattro, might be affected.

Should I allow the Android 12 update?

We don’t recommend it – not until ReSound announces that they have fixed the issue.

How can I get my ReSound hearing aids to stream from my smartphone until the fix happens?

If you’ve already approved the Android 12 update, here’s what might work:

• Yes, you’ve heard it before! – Turn off your phone and turn it back on again. Sometimes this can fix quite a few issues.

  
  

• If that doesn’t work, turn off the Bluetooth and turn it back on again.

  
  

• If that doesn’t work, disable audio streaming and enable it again.
