Each section will help you feel prepared and confident ahead of your appointment.
Step 1: Preparation Homework
Important Preparation Ahead of Your Hearing Evaluation
Although the industry norm is to assess hearing in a sound-treated space, we believe the evaluation should be much more thorough.
Before your hearing evaluation, we ask that you reflect on the questions below. This preparation allows us to understand where your hearing challenges are affecting your life and the situations where hearing is either easy or difficult.
You are encouraged not to rush this process. Instead, keep these questions in mind over the next few days and make notes when situations arise.
When does your hearing feel normal?
Share situations where you do not feel that your hearing is impaired.
When does your hearing feel most difficult?
Are there any upcoming events you are concerned about?
Step 2: Intake Documents
Every healthcare practice requires privacy notices and medical intake documents to be completed before an appointment.
These documents allow us to:
Maintain compliance and protect your privacy
Understand your medical history
Develop an individualized hearing healthcare plan
Please complete your intake documents prior to your visit so that we can be fully prepared when you arrive.

Step 3: Frequently Asked Questions
It is natural to have questions before visiting an audiologist. Most people are not sure what to expect during their first hearing evaluation.
Below are answers to the questions we hear most often.
What Happens During a Hearing Test?
Your hearing assessment begins with a conversation about you.
We will discuss:
Your hearing challenges
Your lifestyle and listening environments
Medical history and potential contributing factors
Next, we examine your ears using an otoscope to evaluate:
Skin conditions
Earwax accumulation
Possible obstructions
The structural health of the eardrum
If necessary, additional tests may include:
Tympanometry to evaluate middle ear function
Pure tone audiometry to measure hearing thresholds
Word recognition testing to evaluate speech clarity
Otoacoustic emissions testing to assess inner ear function
The final step of the evaluation is reviewing your results and discussing what they mean for your hearing health.
