If you have a hearing loss, hearing aids are key to improving your quality of life. However, they are an investment, with prices ranging from $1,500 – $3,500 per device. So, if you need hearing aids for both ears, the cost could total up to $7,000.

Although the technology and overall benefits are worth every penny, I understand that not every patient can afford hearing aids. That’s why finding out if your insurance can cover the cost of hearing aids is definitely worth investigating.

What To Do First

Mandated coverage varies from state to state. The best thing to do is to contact your insurance provider and ask exactly what they will cover in terms of hearing care. This might be a phone call you dread making—I know how confusing insurance can be—but you may discover some excellent benefit news that means hearing aids are more accessible to you than you first thought.

Essential Questions To Ask

Below are the questions you should ask your insurance provider.

  1. What exactly does my insurance plan cover? Does it include the cost of hearing aids or does it only cover hearing tests?

  2. Who can I see for my hearing care? Am I restricted to seeing certain audiologists? Where can I find a list of the type of hearing aids you’ll cover?

  3. How do payments work? Do I pay for my hearing devices and you will reimburse me later? Or do you accept direct billing from my hearing care provider?

  4. Are there any restrictions? Is there a financial limit on hearing devices? Does my hearing loss have to be at a certain level to qualify for hearing aid coverage?

I Can Help You

I know how beneficial hearing aids can be, and I understand how navigating through your insurance policy can be confusing and frustrating. If you need any help with determining what your insurance does or does not cover, my team and I would be happy to talk to your insurance company on your behalf. I will then contact you with the outcome.

What Happens If You Aren’t Covered?

First, don’t panic. This doesn’t mean that you will have to do without hearing aids or frantically try to figure out a payment plan. Help is available – there are organizations that can help to fund people’s hearing care. Be sure to ask me for more details about the options available, do some research on local funding, or have a look here.

If you are concerned that you might have a hearing loss, don’t hesitate to give me a call. A hearing test is the first step to determining whether or not you have a hearing loss. I will work with you to create a personalized hearing management plan so you can continue to get the most out of your hearing and out of life.
