For several years now, ReSound hearing aid users have been able to wirelessly stream calls and audio from their iOS Apple devices directly to their hearing aids.

I know this functionality is something my patients with Android phones have been waiting for. And I'm excited to tell you, the wait is over!

Android 10 users now enjoy wireless streaming to their ReSound's LiNX Quattro hearing aids thanks to their collaboration with Google.

What does this mean for you? You can now listen to music, audio, phone calls, and more directly to your hearing aids without the use of an additional accessory.

Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids

Google was a co-creator of the technology, making this all possible, Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA). Unfortunately, ASHA's wireless connectivity is only available on devices operating on Android 10.

According to Android Central, Android 10 is available on all Google Pixel phones, Samsung Galaxy 10s, and Samsung Galaxy Note 9. A rollout to other phones is planned, but if you wanted to upgrade your phone, now is a perfect time.

This functionality expands on the Resound Smart 3D app, as you'll still be able to control the volume and change programs. But now, you'll be able to comfortably hear all audio in both ears, no matter what setting you're in.

You might wonder if this capability will quickly drain both your phone battery and your hearing aid batteries. The good news is ASHA runs on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), so you won't be running out of power anytime soon.

Check ReSound Compatibility With Android Device

  1. Go to Google Play. In the "Search" field on top, enter "ReSound Smart 3D" and download the ReSound Smart 3D app. Or you can click here to download the latest version of the app.

  2. Once downloaded, open the app and tap "Get Started."

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your hearing devices to your cell phone/tablet.

You will then be presented with one of three different screens.

#1 – All Connected

If your screen looks like this, then the good news is that both your Android device and hearing technology are compatible, and your hearing aids have been automatically paired to your devices.

#2 – Settings Changes Required

If you are presented with a red warning icon on both your "Status" and "My ReSound" at the bottom of your screen, along with a red warning icon next to "Direct Audio Streaming," like pictured below, then this indicates that your Android device is not paired correctly. In this instance, tap the "Direct Audio Streaming" option, and the app will take you through instructions to pair correctly.

#3 – Not Compatible

If you receive two warning badges on "Direct Audio Streaming" and "My ReSound," – then your hearing technology is not compatible.

Your carrier can tell you if your model will get the updated operating system or if you'll have to upgrade your device. All-new Android phones will launch with the Android 10 operating system, so it's only some older devices that won't be able to access it.

Have Questions?

If you were able to wirelessly connect your ReSound LiNX Quattro hearing aids to your Android device, I hope you enjoy this new technology. And if you're ready to upgrade your hearing aids, we'd love to hear from you.
